All unambiguous end-of-line hyphens have been removed and the trailing part of a word has been joined to the preceding line, except in the case of those words that break over a page. Every effort has been made to preserve the Māori macron using unicode.
Some keywords in the header are a local Electronic Text Collection scheme to aid in establishing analytical groupings.
The copy-text for this electronic edition was originally owned by the book collector and amateur historian Horace Fildes and later donated to Victoria University. Tipped-in newspaper cuttings have been transcribed. Fildes' hand-written annotations and corrections have also been reproduced.
The copy used for transcription appears to be imperfect. Two leaves at the back of the book, bearing the first four pages of the publisher's catalogue, are missing and have not been transcribed.
