Folk too numerous to be all named have helped us generously in all kinds of ways, sharing their memories and family histories, lending documents and photographs, and giving us hospitality and encouragement. Helpers among present and past residents of the Kaponga district include Margaret Abbott, Paul Anderson-Gardiner, Peter Barleyman, Stan and Jean Betts, Rona Chapman, Ellie Crowley, Doreen Fitzgerald, Don and Rosalie Gibson, Geoff Harding, the late John Harding, Lyn Harper, Doug Hutchinson, Derek Law, Maureen Malone, Katie Monaghan, June Rolls, Norman Watts and Ted Washer. Betty's brothers, Jim, Les, Don, Clive and Colin Burrows, have helped in many ways and her sister-in-law Janet Burrows has been a major facilitator. Other Taranaki helpers (some of whom may have lived in Kaponga) include S.T. Allen, Myrtle Amoore, Jennie Bell (Principal, Kaponga School), Gladys Campbell, R.B. Cleland, Christine Clement, Dorothy Davies, Mary Davis (Editor, Hawera Star), Rona Jenkins, Helen Love, Bruce McCutchan, Lyall Mellow, Sean Melville, Janet Old, Dorothy Williamson. Much help has come from Kaponga's Waikato ‘diaspora’, especially Jan Balsom, Jan Bourke, John Lorimer Christie, John Dudley, Pat Fitzgerald, Dorothea Kenney, Keith A. Morrison, Ted Nicholls and Brian Richardson. Helpers from Wellington include Colin Candy, Susan Davey, Milton Hollard, Michael Steer, Julie Thomas, John M. Wilson and David Winchester; from Masterton, Myra Schofield, Robin Startup and Gareth Winter; from Palmerston North, Karen Sinclair; from Rakaia, Janet Caunter; from Christchurch, Gordon Sim.

For the use of illustrations drawn from family sources we thank the 1982 Kaponga Centennial Committee, Margaret Abbott, S.T. Allen, Jan Balsom, Jan Bourke, Colin Candy, Janet Caunter, R.B. Cleland, Dorothy Davies, Joyce Dymond, Doreen Fitzgerald, Pat Fitzgerald, Wendy Mitchell, June Rolls, Michael Steer and David Wilkie.

Thanks also to folk who generously lent us photos that were not finally selected.

Once again I am deeply indebted to many librarians and archivists. For this project my heaviest demands were on the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Archives, Taranaki Museum, and the public libraries of New Plymouth, Hawera and Wellington. It has been a pleasure to again enjoy the professional expertise of Barry Bradley in the drawing of maps and of Fergus Barrowman and his team in turning my typescript into a book.
