After Reading an Anthology

The piss stain at the bottom of the escalator in the
Miquel-Adickes-Allee underground station

I don’t claim that it’s better
than any of the many poems
I’ve read today
I just know that it says more to me

This piss stain at the bottom of the escalator in the
Miquel-Adickes-Allee underground station

Talks about someone under pressure
Signals that it absolutely had to come out
Testifies that whoever it was who felt this urge
Produced something in a gush:

This piss stain at the bottom of the escalator in the
Miquel-Adickes-Allee underground station

Then I think of the voices
That have spoken to me today: no
pressure, no urge, no
zing, no danger, no
bite, no compulsion,
no urine, no brain.
