That was just a dream
You were there trying to kiss
me with a mouth full of food.
I was wearing a dressing gown,
planting hellebores,
running away from paramedics,
pulling out an IV line.
And you were taking me apart
with your teeth, so white.
As the moon watched from above
I was gardening in the dark.
Scattering mustard seed
& lurking like a bumble bee
around a borage flower.
Watching like the kingfisher
waiting for the newt to rise.
You were the ladybird
flying back to your burning
house.
I think I set
this fire myself.
That Summer
What you notice most
about that summer
are the dandelions.
There are dandelions everywhere.
Outside the dental clinic,
lining the hills of Aro Valley
with tiny yellow bricks
millions of stars
in the emerald sky.
