Victoria College Students' Carnival. Friday, 1st July, 1904.
Qui Nobis Cunctando Constituit Rem
Qui Nobis Cunctando Constituit Rem.
The Council of Victoria Coll.
Of a chairman were in need;
Said they," We want a right good man,
On that we're all agreed;
He ought to be a brilliant star,—
In fact a leading light."
So can you tell me the reason why
They've chosen Knight! Knight! Knight!
Chorus:
'E 'appened to live 'ere,
'E 'appened to live 'ere,
The only reason they could find
Is one which all should bear in mind:
They placed him in the Council's vacant chair
Just because, because, because
'E 'appened to live 'ere.
"Turning his face he put his hand behind him."
The man who bumped out H.P.R.
's by name and nature meek,
And the demagogue of the name of Hogg
Is passing sleek, sleek, sleek.
There's Evans, who was in the Church,
But is now a diplomat,
And that lover of the working man,
A lean man waxing fat,
Chorus:
Who's trying to get there,
He's trying to get there;
Each working man has got a vote,
And therefore he has changed his coat,
His manner is so suave and debonair
Just because, because, because
He's trying to get there.
"If idle talk will once be necessary, I'll not sleep neither."
They meet in conclave once a month,
Each member talks in turn;
"Now, gentlemen," the Chairman says,
"'Tis time we did adjourn;
I've furnished you a balance-sheet
For several years ahead,
'Tis true we've done no business, but
'Tis time we were abed."
Chorus:
'Tis time we were abed,
'Tis time we were abed,
These students think to work we've met,
But talking won't pay off our debt,
And now there's nothing more that can be said.
So, gentlemen, I think 'tis time
That we had gone to bed.
"O (K)night! O(K)night! Alack! Alack!"
"A Knight well-spoken, neat and fine;
But, were I you, he never should be mine."
