Mr. William G. Chalk, Second Engineer of the s.s. “Rimutaka,” was born in 1863 at Southampton, and was apprenticed to a firm of engineers in that town. Joining the New Zealand Shipping Company in 1886, Mr. Chalk was for eight years on the s.s. “Aorangi,” being transferred to the s.s. “Rimutaka” in 1894 to the position which he now holds. As a member of the masonic fraternity, Mr. Chalk is attached to the Unanimity Lodge, N.Z.C. He is married, and has one daughter.
