Sir Julius Vogel

Sir Julius Vogel, whose career is described in the Wellington volume in the section devoted to “Past Premiers,” represented Auckland City East from 1871 to 1875. During that time his great public works scheme was in the ascendant, and though there are doubtless still divergent opinions as to the merits of that scheme, there can be no doubt that Sir Julius worked hard for the Colony and wielded immense power. To the sketch given in Volume I. it need only be added that Sir Julius died in London on the 12th of March, 1899.
