Rev. Percy Scott Smallfield

Rev. Percy Scott Smallfield, Tutor of St. John's Theological College and Head Master of St. John's School for Boys, was born at Auckland in 1858, being the eldest son of Mr. Octavius Smallfield of that city. The reverend gentleman was educated at the Church of England Grammar School, Parnell, and at St. John's College, Tamaki, where he was a Foundation Scholar. He then started teaching under the Auckland Board of Education and became head master at Mt. Eden district school, where he remained three years. Afterwards he entered the ministry of the Church of England, and was ordained deacon in 1882 and priest in 1883, by the present primate. In 1882, he was appointed curate at Bombay and held that cure until 1886. He afterwards became curate of Ellerslie-cum-Epsom, and later at St. Albans, Mt. Roskill. In 1891, Mr. Smallfield became head master of the school for boys at St. John's College, and in 1896, tutor of St. John's Theological College.
