McConnell, Quentin Addison

McConnell, Quentin Addison, Mining Engineer, Tatarua Terrace, Parnell, Auckland. Mr. McConell was born at Wolverton, in 1848, and is the eldest son of the late Mr. James Edward McCoanell, M.I.C.E., who was for many years Chief Engineer of the London and North Western Railway, England. Mr. McConnell was educated at St. Andrew's University, Scotland, and in Germany, and was brought up to the engineering profession. He has spent many years in the far west of the United States of America, and has been engaged in opening up and developing the gold and silver mines of Nevada, Utah, and California. In 1871 he was appointed engineer and managing director of the Utah Mining and Smelting Company, a London Company, which was the first started by English capitalists to develop the mines of the now famous Wahsatch Rauge, Utah Territory. Mr. McConncil was for twelve years engaged in the ractice of his profession in London.
