Mount Albert Road District occupies the wide stretch of pleasant undulating country to the west of Mount Eden. It still has a rural aspect, but is being rapidly acquired by business men seeking suburban homes. The train conveys passengers through the heart of the district, and good roads afford an outlet to the more remote parts of the suburb.

The Morningside Public School is situated at Mount Albert, and was erected about twenty years ago. It has 250 children on the roll, with an average attendance of 210. The staff consists of Mr. Whitham, headmaster, Misses Nicholson and Willerton, and three pupil teachers.

Mr. Robert Currer Whitham, Headmaster of Mount Albert district school, was born near Leeds, Yorkshire, and is the eldest son of Mr. Joseph Whitham. He was educated at the Normal Training College, Christchurch. In 1876 he joined the Canterbury Board of Education, and began teaching at the East Christchurch school. He was appointed headmaster of the Kohimarama school, near Auckland, in 1881, and held the position until the school was dispensed with by the Government in 1882. Thereupon he entered the employment of the Auckland Board of Education, and became assistant teacher at Newton East school, afterwards headmaster at Parua Bay, Dome Valley, subsequently first assistant master at Devonport, and in 1891, he received his present appointment. Mr. Whitham devotes a portion of his spare time to local preaching, as he is a member of the local preachers' staff of the Wesleyan Church.
