Mr. Thomas Alfred Crisp

Mr. Thomas Alfred Crisp, Ex-Member of Whangarei County Council, of Te Rongo, Parua Bay, was born in Bath in 1826 and is a son of the late Mr. James Crisp, alderntan of Bath, who took a prominent part in connection with the Reform Bill of 1832. He received his education in Bath and in 1843 went to Liverpool and served three years with Messrs, Bury, Curtis and Kennedy. He was, subsequently, employed in the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway locomotive department, and engineering in various parts of England till 1857, when he went to America for about three years. In 1862 he landed at Melbourne per “Lord Raglan,” and came to New Zealand in 1864 from Queensland. Mr. Crisp was offered and accepted a position in the Waste Lands Office, Auckland, but resigned in 1866 to take up land in the Parua Bay district. He subsequently sold his property. Mr. Crisp was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1874, but resigned in 1880. As a county councillor he initiated the erection of the jetty at Parua Bay. Mrs. Crisp landed in Auckland per ship “Ida Ziegler” in November, 1867, and now resides at Lake Takapuna.
