The Bank Of New Zealand

The Bank Of New Zealand at Oamaru dates from the sixties. It occupies a portion of a two-storey building at the corner of Thames and Itchen Streets; other parts of the building being occupied by the New Zealand and South British Insurance Companies, and by the New Zealand and Union Shipping Companies. This branch of the Bank of New Zealand is the only one between Waimate in South Canterbury and Palmerston in Otago. Mr. Walter Moreton Hindmarsh, the manager, joined the Bank at Greymouth in 1879. After occupying numerous positions in various parts of the colony, he was appointed to Oamaru in September, 1302.
