Lowden, John
Lowden, John , Engineer, Wheelwright, Coachbuilder, and General Blacksmith, Bridge Street, Mataura. This business dates from 1883, and has, from the first, been conducted by the present proprietor. The buildings stand at the corner of Bridge Street, opposite the railway, and are constructed of wood and iron. They consist of an engineer's shop, wheelwright's shop, and a smith's shop, in addition to four retail shops — which are let — and a dwelling house. Mr Lowden has a full plant, including two forges, and manufactures both light and heavy vehicles. He is referred to in another article as Mayor of Mataura.
