Mr. John Taylor

Mr. John Taylor , who is the second son of the late Mr John Taylor, was born at Sunnyside, Drumoak, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1852. He sailed for Port Chalmers by the s.s.

page 1091 “Wakatipu,” from London, on the 12th of July, 1876, and on his arrival in Otago obtained a situation as shepherd with the late Mr James Shand, of Outram, West Taieri. He was afterwards in the same capacity with Messrs E. and C. Pharazyn, Whatarangi, on the East Coast of the North Island, in whose employment he remained four years. In 1882, Mr Taylor started in business as a butcher at North East Valley, and carried on there until 1891, when he re-visited London. He returned to New Zealand in 1893, with the express purpose of at once starting rabbit exportation, but unfortunately arrived too late for that season. Mr Taylor was initiated in Freemasonry in Lodge St. John's, Kilwinning, No. 662, S.C., and is also an officer of the Lodge Valley of True Blues, No. 11, Protestant Alliance Friendly Society, North East Valley, Dunedin. He was married, in 1893, to Margaret, daughter of the late Mr Alexander Jeffray, of Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
