19th of July, 1858. He was educated in Dunedin, and was brought up to country life, and gained experience of agricultural machinery. He settled at Mataura, in 1872, and has since then been associated with the district. His residence, workshop, and yard stand on freehold land on the western bank of the river. Mr Kay was married, in 1886, to a daughter of Mr Timothy Boyle, of Woodlands, and has two daughters and one son.
