The Rev. Edgar Ward

The Rev. Edgar Ward , who was Mayor of Riverton for seven consecutive years before he entered the ministry of the Church of England, is the youngest son of the late Mr John Ward, of “Thornhill,” sheepfarmer, Groper's Bush, Southland. He studied law, and was admitted as a solicitor at Timaru, in the year 1889, by Mr Justice Denniston. After that Mr Ward went to reside at Riverton, and was for a number of years actively associated with the social and public life of the place. In the year 1900 he entered the ministry of the Anglican church, and is now (1905) viear of Anderson's Bay, Dunedin. In 1881, Mr Ward married the only daughter of Mr Richard Carrow, formerly of the New Zealand Railway Department, and niece of Commander W. G. Carrow, R. N., of Long Marston, England. Further biographical particulars and Mr Ward's photograph appear at pages 183–4 of this volume.
