Mr. William Gunn

Mr. William Gunn , the Proprietor, is a native of Braemore, Caithness, Scotland, where he was born in 1838, and was taught the trade of a builder, chiefly in Edinburgh. He left his native land shortly after attaining his majority, sailing from the Clyde by the ship “Lady Egidia” on the 10th of October, 1860, and arriving at Port Chalmers exactly three months later. page 939 some time. After a short goldfields experience, he commenced business as a builder in Riverton, where he has followed his calling almost continuously for forty years. Mr. Gunn takes a great interest in the mining industries of the district; he is one of the principal shareholders and a director of the Ourawera Gold Mining Company at Round Hill, near Colac Bay, and also one of the promoters and a director of the Lion Gold Mining Company, Ltd., Nokomai.
