Mr. Francis John Trail , Of the firm of Trail Brothers and Smythies, was born in 1880, at Riverton. where he was educated. After leaving school, he engaged at sawmill work in various capacities until becoming a partner in the present firm, in 1899. Mr Trail has rowed in the page 941 Riverton Rowing Club's fours at Riverton and the Bluff; and is a member of Lodge Wallace (Riverton) Independent Order of Oddfellows, American Constitution. He was married, in 1902, to a daughter of Mr Michael Cousins, of Pahia, near Orepuki.
