The Cyclopedia of New Zealand [Nelson, Marlborough & Westland Provincial Districts]

Mr. William Thomas Daikee

Mr. William Thomas Daikee came to New Zealand in 1855, landed in Nelson, and shortly afterwards went to the Wairau. For a time, he was employed at timber sawing, and later on took up a small farm; but when the settlement of Blenheim was fairly started, and there was a demand for substantial residences, he turned his attention to his trade—that of a builder. As one of the earliest builders and bricklayers in the province, Mr. Daikee conducted an extensive and prosperous business, and manufactured his own bricks for many years in Blenheim; and he was respected as a thoroughly reliable tradesman. Mr. Daikee died in the year 1904, when seventy-three years of age; and left two sons and one daughter.
