Well, ere his choice was fixed—his father died,
And left the youth with more of gold supplied
Than would for his immediate wants provide.
So to the Sea, his passion all the time,
He took. To remove from clime to clime,
At least would gratify his ruling taste:
At least, he knew upon the watery waste
His buoyant spirits kept in play would be—
His soul unfettered still, his fancy free.
