Message from the ex-Minister of Railways

Upon relinquishing the portfolio of Railways, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates has forwarded the following letter to the General Manager:

I am giving up this week the portfolio of Minister of Railways which I have held continuously since 1923.

In doing so I should like to take the opportunity of expressing to you, who have been so long and intimately connected with the New Zealand Railways, my own personal thanks for your untiring efforts, and through you, to every member of the staff of the Department, my appreciation of their loyal services to the country at large.

More than one tribute has been paid lately to the zealous and efficient manner in which all ranks of the Railway Service carry out their duties and, in adding my own tribute to the others, I wish to express my conviction that the Railway Department will always continue to maintain its high traditions.

The General Manager feels sure that the staff will be highly gratified to know that their efforts have been appreciated by our late Minister, and on their behalf he has thanked Mr. Coates for his very kindly communication.
