Glyphostoma purpurascens, Dunker

Glyphostoma purpurascens, Dunker

Dunker, Malak. Blatt., xviii., 1871, p. 160.

Clathurella pulchella, Garrett, Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Phil., 1873, p. 219, pl. iii., fig. 32.

Glyphostomagoubini, Hervier, Journ. deConch., xliii., 1895(1896), p. 149; xliv., 1896 (1897), p. 75, pl. ii, fig. 17.

Seven specimens from the lagoon at Funafuti.

Try on writes that G. purpurascens "is admitted by Mr. Garrett to be identical with his C. pulchetta, over which it has two years' priority of publication." The figure and description of Father Hervier so exactly correspond to the others quoted, that I fear no contradiction in reducing his name to synonomy. Possibly the unfigured C. rubicunda, Gould, || is the same species.

Dunker described it from Upolu (Samoa), Garrett from Fiji, and Hervier from Lifu (Loyalties). If the prior Clathurella rubicunda, Gould, is identical, the range includes the Loo Choo Islands.
