[unclear: Teriwhiti]

Aug. 1965.

Having been snared and deluded into attending a weekend trip of Master Tramper Bullock's eight hardy souls assembled at Wellington Station at 8.35 a.m. [unclear: From] there they gambolled to the Cenotaph, where they procured the services of a WCC bus to Karoro Park, where Nick dutifully phoed for a taxi. One and a half hours later and 74 Arabian curses later someone traced the [unclear: ancestry] of all taxi-drivers and we strode off towards [gap — reason: illegible] township on foot, sneering heavily.

4 members managed to pick the last mile in the comfort of a [unclear: chauffered limousine] only to wait for half an hour in brilliant sunshine and [unclear: sandflies] fir the others to arrive. The glorious [unclear: heights] of white Rock were duly conquered and the magnificent view surveyed. [unclear: Lunch] was consumed just above the saddle between the Ohau Bay Valley, and the Oteranga Bay Valley. Downing [unclear: packs], we strolled up towards the trig, only to be side-[unclear: tracked] by the night of old [unclear]ines on the seaward slopes. A pleasant afternoon was spent [unclear: delving] into these and basking in the sun, The more public-spirited lads more orst while [unclear] in bowling rocks into a gully, to the sole end of increasing the area of the farmer's arable land. (Despite the hard work, [unclear: [gap — reason: illegible]klds] of devilish [unclear: glee] were heard [unclear: from] the labourors.) After this, we all ambled down a gluch to the west coast of [unclear: Tarawhiti], and hended south to the first good stream where camp was established. A bountiful first course served, (stood of course) followed by a [unclear: dubious] but [unclear: welcome] second course. By the [unclear: fading] light we observed the new moon and the playful habits of two seals. Our docile little cooking fire suddenly blossomed into a mighty [unclear: conflagration] and served the purpose of exploding rocks and being poked and strated at until about 9.30 when all concerned retired gracefully. Mattresses oftar-weeny and cushion bushes were prepared to soften the steny ground.

Sundy brought a chill Southerly wind, overcast skies, and more capering about by the [unclear: seals]. After a leisurely breakfast, the party [unclear: pera[gap — reason: illebile]bulatel] via the coast to Ohau Bay, thence to Te Ike-a-Haru Bay. Several strategically placed decayed bovines hastoned our [unclear: pace] [unclear: so][gap — reason: illebile]. Two pleasant hours were spent absorbing sunshine, brews and social gossip in between the taupate trees at the Te Ika-a Haru Bay, [unclear: campsite]. Following this, we sauntered up the dirt road to quartz Hill, [unclear: and] them field down a humpy ridge into a gully, before we arrived at Makare. Township again.

Several miles of pleasant road-walking later, we arrived at the karori bus [unclear: terminus]. A gentle end.
