The Commissioners state that they refrain from making any report as the case appears to be a special one; and it is stated in a letter from the Earl of Aberdeen to Lord Cowley, dated 28th July, 1842, and from the Colonial Secretary to Mons. Beligny, dated 12th April, 1843, the Company's Agent, copies of which are attached to the papers, that the claims of the N.-B. Company were to be treated on the same footing as those of an English Company. The evidence of the original purchase by Captain Langlois, in 1838, is very deficient, but the Natives admit a sale in August, 1844, of certain portions of the claim. They further agreed, in the same month, to alienate large tracts of land on the Peninsula for further considerations, which, however, were never paid them. They expressed their readiness still to dispose of the land. The Commissioners, however, have not received evidence of the Company's outlay; but satisfactory evidence has been adduced to show that the Company have fulfilled their agreement with the Natives.
