We are glad to publish the following reply by his Excellency Sir George Grey to the address forwarded to him by the settlers of Wellington:—

Gentlemen,—It was with no ordinary feelings of pleasure that I received, through Mr. Fox, the address you forwarded to me. In past years I have, in company with many of yourselves, passed through difficulties and dangers, of which I have since often thought in the midst of other trials in distant countries; and now to be met upon my arrival here—to encounter new difficulties—by words of encouragement and promises of support from you, is most gratifying to me.

I hope soon to have the pleasure of thanking you in person for your address; in the mean time you may rest assured that I will spare no exertion to promote your peace and happiness, and to shew that I am not unmindful of the feelings of confidence you have expressed in me.
