SWANSON, William 1847–1928
Born Auckland, second son of William Swanson who arrived Auckland 1845 and after whom Swanson township and Swanson Street, Auckland are named. At some time the son William Swanson took painting lessons from L. J. Steele. Had property at Mangere and at Rangiriri and painted in both districts: lived for a long time on the North Shore. A very competent watercolour of Onehunga is in ACAG. A William Swanson was listed as a Hawke's Bay artist, 1880–81 Wise's.
