YELVERTON, Hon. William Charles 1824–1883
Lieut in the Royal Artillery in New Zealand 1840s. Rose to rank of Major and fought in the seige of Sebastopol in 1854. Succeeded his father as Viscount Avonmore and Baron Yelverton in the Irish peerage 1870. A lithograph of his sketch of a fishing pa on Wanganui River is used as an illustration in W. Tyrone Power's Sketches in New Zealand pub. 1849.
