Nineteenth Century New Zealand Artists: A Guide & Handbook

BUNNEY, J

BUNNEY, J.

Probably John Bunney, English painter of architectural subjects and of landscapes, exhibited RA 1849–1881; accompanied Ruskin to northern France as young man and assisted him measuring and drawing buildings. There are watercolours by a J. Bunney of main New Zealand towns dated 1858, but no evidence of his being in New Zealand. The main part of his Auckland view is a direct copy of P. J. Hogan's Auckland from Hobson Street South, with added foreground of houses and traffic. Represented: Nan Kivell Collection ANL, Canberra.
