Was artist, scene painter, and actor. After the financial disaster of his father, the artist George Rowe, Fawcett accompanied him to Australia from England in 1852, Rowe being appointed by the British Government as official artist to the goldfields. Both went straight to Bendigo, the son acting and scene painting, as well as painting scenes of gold digging life. By then he signed his work “George Fawcett” to distinguish it from his father's. In Bendigo became part-owner of the Princess Theatre. In early 1860s followed gold rush to Otago and would have known painter G. O'Brien, with him in Bendigo. In 1864 active in art circles in Wellington. From New Zealand went to USA where he became a well-known actor. Represented: Turnbull.
