HARPER, Emily Weddell (Mrs J. B. A. Acland) 1830–1905
Born in England, eldest daughter of the Right Rev. H. J. C. Harper, who arrived in Canterbury 1856 on the Egmont to be first Bishop of Christchurch. Was one of twelve children, six boys and six girls, and when she married J. B. A. Acland of Mt Peel Station her sister Sarah married Percy Cox at the same ceremony at Bishopscourt. Her watercolours are lively and those of Christchurch have especial historical value.
