HOLMES, (Miss) Alice Hester
Daughter of R. T. Holmes. In 1883 was living in Thorndon, Wellington: was probably this Miss A. Holmes who in 1889 was the “Instructress” at the Wairarapa Branches of the School of Design. Exhibited flower paintings with Fine Arts Assoc Wtn 1883, 1884, in 1884 some of the painting being on plaques and vases; with NZ Academy of Fine Arts Wtn 1889–92; in NZ and South Seas Ex Dunedin 1889–90 three oils, winning a third prize for a still life.
