PRATT, William H. 1852–1934

Born Christchurch, son of early Nelson pioneer. Went to England 1876 to study art: married and returned to New Zealand 1879. Between 1887–1916 farmed in the Riwaka Valley, Nelson, the Waitotara Valley, and the St. James station in the South Island; farmed page 199 also at Totaranui where much of his best painting was done. Retired in Wellington, but by 1920 was in Wanganui, a member of the Wanganui Arts and Crafts Society until the early 1930s and was listed as Vice-President of the Society 1926. Died in Wanganui. Exhibited: CSA as a Riccarton member 1881–87; as Nelson member 1888–89; as Wanganui member 1890; from Totaranui 1892–94; from Collingwood 1894, 1908; Nelson 1910.
