The Kia ora coo-ee : the magazine for the ANZACS in the Middle East, 1918

[section]

"Malurus": What's in a name? Out at Giza Zoo the other day, I saw two Australian natives who had a grievance, concerning which they were vociferous. And no wonder. Was pass-ing a big cage when my attention was attract-ed by a chorus of screeches—familiar sound in the Bush. The row came from a couple of Galahs. I stopped and the old birds pointed their beaks at the notice board affixed to the cage, outside. They were silent while I read the following: "Piitacci. Cacatua roseicapilla. Roseate Cockatoo. Le Cacatois rosalbin. Der rosakakadu. Babaghan". As I turned sorrow-fully away, the Galahs broke forth again into shrieks of anguish. They didn't mind the others so much, but the German title ruffled their feelings and feathers beyond endurance.
