Dear "Salient,"
We are very sorry that our letter was interpreted in the light of a grumble, or personal complaint. As such it was never intended. Your crushing but inept reply made it even more evident that such a complaint would have been superfluous. The personal inferences that it contained were therefore completely unjustified.
But despite the adroit journalism of this reply, the questions which were put to you remain unanswered.
