The Exec. in Vacation

The Exec. in Vacation

During the holidays the Executive had two meetings, and from reading the minutes of these meetings, (a moat unsatisfactory way of finding out what has been happening) it seems that some important, a lot of routine, and a few trivial matters have been the grist in their mill.

Grants

The Swords Club were given an extra £10 to buy more French equipment—which has arrived, and lovely stuff it is too. The Women's Outdoor Basketball Club was given £13 and asked to keep their financial records in better shape. The Ski Club had an account paid, and were given £2/5/- for badges—members, be in.

Last year's Extrav.

The four authors of Jubileevit' were rewarded with a ten guinea book coupon (a motion for a twenty guinea cash prize being defeated. The producer, stage manager, properties and wardrobe mistresses were given book coupons of varying amounts. The profits from Extrav and from Cappicade were put into the Building Fund Account, £250/2/5 in all. A pity that every year has not been so profitable.

And this year's

The following appointments were

Extrav. Organiser: Kevin O'Brien. Graduation Ceremony: Alison Pearce. Undergraduates Supper: Jocelyn Murray. Capping Ball Controller: Audrey Cook. Wardrobe Mistresses: Ephra Garrett and Daphne. Fletcher. Make up Controller: Pat Evtson.

And food

"The Accountant reported that the Cafeteria has made a financial change to the good." That's a cryptic remark from the minutes which we report without comment. Anyway, the Exec. showed their appreciation of the services of Mrs Harrison by sending her £5/5/- They also set up a committee to interview the applicants for the position of cook-manageress during 1950. The BMA used the caf. during the vacation when they had their conference: it was earmarked for display purposes, and apparently it was, a place of clinical beauty, complete with fluorescent lighting, soft colours, and glass fittings. Pity they couldn't have left some of them about.

Secretary resigns

Bill Hume's resignation was regretfully received: the Exe. sent him a letter to mark the occasion—change for him to be receiving them. Neil Mountier has been appointed Hon. Cecretary in his place and takes over all the positions formerly held by the retiring secretary.

Salient

The following were authorised: that Salient should appear 24 times per year: that a subscription card should cost 4/-: that a single copy should cost 3d. The revised Publications regulations (which were the result of a couple of Publications Committee meetings at the end of last year) were introduced. In future, all articles which appear in Salient shall be in good taste and shall not contain scurrilous or libellous attacks on individuals or organizations." If the editor is in doubt as to the taste of an article, he shall refer it to the officers (any two) of the Association. If they Ok it, then they take the kicks, if any. The editor may appeal to the exec. if these officers won't Ok it; and then the exec. becomes responsible if they do it. The editor is responsible for any articles which he prints without this approval.

The exec was to advise the council that it approves the principle of setting up a committee to consider the block allocation and facilities needed on the new building: and that the committee should consist of one representative of the Prof. Board: one of the other teaching staff: two from the council: two from past students: four from present students (two to be permanent) and the trustees of the Building Fund ex officio. One of the first duties of the planning committees should be to consider the appointment of a suitable architect it was resolved that members of the present Exec. be appointed to constitute a committee to start immediately getting information about the needs of students and clubs for submission to the Committee. Well, there it is.
