Last Saturday, at the invitation of the Wellington Council of the New Zealand Peace and Anti-Conscription Federation, a preliminary meeing was held to make preparations for organising a Youth Peace Congress in Wellington in June. The VUC Students' Association, the Socialist Club, and Wellington and Hutt Valley Progressive Youth Leagues were represented. Much enthusiasm for the idea and for the cause of world peace was shown by those present. A committee was set up consisting of Mr. Jack Gibson (chairman), Mr. Ian Haxton (secretary), Messrs. Lance Robinson, and Frank McWilliams.
Readers of "Salient" interested in opposing the current driving us towards a Third World War are reminded that the Very Rev. Hewlett Johnson, B.Sc, D.D., Dean of Canterbury (and graduate of Victoria University (Manchester), will address a Peace Rally in the Wellington Town Hall on Monday, May 1, at 8 p.m.
