Judges of this year's contest were all earlier successful contestants. Miss C. S. Forde (1932), Mr. At. A. E. [unclear: Muricy] (1930). and Mr. W. W. Mount joy (1928). They said they speakers should:
- Give the "blossom of their own mind."
- Not overuse gestures.
- Take hold, lift, sweep the audience.
- Vary speed and loudness of voice.
- Not memorise.
- Play on audience emotions.
