Salient. An Organ of Student Opinion at Victoria University, Wellington N.Z. Vol. 22, No. 8. August 3, 1959

So far the Australian team is an unknown quantity—there is only one member who has been here before, but that is the manageress, Miss Primrose Buchanan, who toured with the Australians in 1955 as a player. The team is hardly representative of the Australian universities, but perhaps Sydney is like Vic and not many people play there either.

The Australian team is:—
G. Brown Melbourne
H. Wilson Melbourne
G. Brockman W. Australia
A. Price Melbourne
G. Rees Tasmania
H. McIver Melbourne
S. Bellette Tasmania
M. Jude Adelaide
E. Walton W. Australia
G. Julin Melbourne
J. Press Tasmania
J. Shaw Melbourne
G. Rolland Tasmania
M. King New England

The Vic team this year is a pretty likely looking group. The forwards: Jill Arnold, Mary Mills, Cynthia Baird, Janet Duncan and Rosemary Raleigh—are all fast types, ready to make the most of every opportunity—and have all situations under control.

The team is relying on a certain amount of experience from Barbara Saunders, who toured Australia with the New Zealand team in 1957. The halves—Barbara Saunders, Barbara Berry and Janice Gumley—and the backs—Robyn Boyd and Angela Rodgers—are all strong with plenty of determination and hard hitting power.

If all else fails, there is Deidre Meadows in goal, who seems to appear formidable to opposing forwards.

The match against the Australian Universities team will be played on Saturday, August 8, at Karori Park at 3 p.m. That it will be a good game you can be certain, but let's have plenty of student support as well.
