On the grapevine

On the grapevine

Girls in trouble

"Four Girls Are In Trouble," read a piece of paper sent in for the "grapevine." What promised to be a startling story turned out rather differently: "Varsity is getting us down and we feel a change is as good as a rest. Money not being over-abundant, we would like to relieve someone of an ox-cart, two tandems, aeroplane, hovercraft, or any form of transport (preferably a car) for a return trip to Auckland. We'll consider any terms—see the, honorary secretary of Vuwsa."

New secretary Trevor Crawford says it's all part of his policy. He says that former secretary Mike King was restricting appeals from girls to those in countries like Japan and Persia. "I just extended the policy," he says.

Forum head

Forum has been under the control of Dave Shand, president of the Debating society, for the last two weeks. Mr. A. Ashenden, forum's founder and guardian, has been in Australia carrying out data processing work.

Seato visit

Lt.-General Jesus Vargis, the secretary-general of Seato, will adress a meeting at Victoria on the Wednesday after study week. The meeting, which will be at 8pm in the Easterfield lecture hall, is jointly sponsored by the Asian Studies Society and the Political Science Society. The exact subject is not yet determined, but it is probable that it will relate to the role of Seato in South-East Asian affairs, particularly the war in Vietnam.

Vietnam centre

A Vietnam information centre has been established by Mr. R. Boshier. He says that the centre will disseminate literature and answer inquiries. Mail should be addressed to him at Box 524, Wellington.
