Student power
Believing ...
- • that the five thousand students are as much members of the University as the five hundred of the staff,
- • that democracy is a practical method of good government,
- • that students, given responsibility will fulfill its demands and that in matters of expert opinion they will voluntarily defer to experts,
- • and that students know they would have more to lose than any other group were Victoria poorly administered,
we request that:—
1. | students be given control of the Student Union Building; |
2. | a staff-student committee be set up to deal with specific administrative and academic complaints; |
3. | a staff-student committee be set up to make recommendations on the degree system, examinations, syllabuses, and admittance; |
4. | students have representatives on faculty committees, to be elected by students of the respective faculties; |
5. | Students' Association have the right to control funds raised by mandatory subscription; |
6. | students have three representatives on the University Council; |
7. | students have three representatives on the Professorial Board; |
8. | all student representatives be elected directly by the students. |
