Dream Sequence

Dream Sequence

the summer smell of jackal's urine
rising sweet from the salt of the old,
old earth; and above, the purification
of an ancient order; birds of the dawn,
your kiss upturned in this foreign wind,
and from the hollows new life being foaled.
And above the river clean linen stretched
between the skulls of the Great Multitudes,
while from the hills a Stranger comes
to taste the potion secretly brewed
by men of little leisure while the sea-birds
creased the diamonds on faroff waves.
Amongst all this the dream of rebirth;
the rejection of all lastic burning tyres,
the immolation of the hot-eyed angel and
the one whose mother is heated by anger.
Burning seed and fragrant rose,
their channelling through this funnel
and the erotic fungus that is the cry of primitive;
buffalo dung that is the eternal stimulant of ancients.

wind fragrance caught by the morning splendour
on valley-sides; the playful craft of foxgloves
cooling the rising heather, alien now friend,
friends are the daffodils by the graveyard,
an acquaintance made from travels to other lands,
and mothers
are those that reek of past adultery, sodomy
of our too primitive age; a dream sequence
that relates a traveller's tale in which
a sweeter sight was seen.
