Out Side Left

The gossip or bull sessions, where Committee on Vietnam policy is decided, seem to have decided this column is unfair, though, typically, they haven't bothered to argue matters out print. Just to soothe any anguished brows on the Committee, and show how good this Colunm is at picking up Unpublished Grievances, be it recorded that what we were worried about when we said no committee members would risk their bourgeois careers to become Committee chairman was that no Senior Committee member would stand against Barry Mitcalfe.

A junior Committee member has, and far be it from us to disapprove of Students Making Good in this way. But it's a falling away by any STATUS standards - first C.O.V. Chairman a training college lecturers second chairman a university lecturer and Lower Hutt City Councillor and now, what a come down, third chairman a physics student. By the way, rumour has it that one ex-chairman —guess who—may leave the Committee after suing it for libel.

What do you for your money at Labour Party-Political Science Society (who is abandoning academic impartiality to whom?) A ticket costs a dollar, and it is impossoble to drink a dollars worth of wine, or, if you're that way inclined, eat a dollars' worth of cheese.

It's not so much that there's not enough wine, but simply that (no brand names, no libel suits) the well-made New Zealand wine is un-drinkable. The only conclusion is that what you get for the dollar is a round half-dozen Labour M.P.'s. Is it worth it? And how much does Labour Club have to pay them to come? Let's hope the budget for one of these political wine and cheese evenings will one day into Salient.

You'll be happy to know that the hint in our last column has taken effect. Doug While, on his triumphant return from the States, Johnson abandoning the Presidential race in despair a fortnight after Doug's departure, has allowed Executive a longer coffee breaknot as long as the Bradshaw regime coffee break, but almost.

With such lubrication, Exec. can be expected to do anything at its meetings, and with.

And who is Students' Association running for the Wellington City Council? New secretary Lenart wants them to back McGralh and there are three students at least on the Labour ticket for council including one past-president of VUWSA. What gives Executive?
