what exec did

Our Social Officer, Malcolm Grovar, gave his report on Capping Week. He thought it was "reasonably successful" although there was some trouble because of shortage of alcohol at balls, attributable to gate-crashing. And the charity collection was bad compared with previous years.

Helen Paske acted on her selection policy by getting through a motion recommending that the Student Union Management Committee investigate laying carpets in the Men's and Women's Common Rooms. The motion was carried by nine votes to five.

Owen Gager, the only applicant, was appointed Congress Controller for next year. He will organise the ennual "University of Curious Cove".

It was decided, without dissent, that the Students' Association should support the petition being arranged by Dave Clerk against the poor quality of the air conditioning in Rankine Brown.

Helen Paske and Owen Gager were elected the Students' Association representatives on the Student Union Management Committee. This is the sub-committee of the University Council which deals with such things as the Student Union Building, Student Hearth Service and Physical Welfare Service.

The Students' Association paid the Science Club $50 that they did not expect. It was returned !

Owen Gager brought to the notice of John McGrath, our representative on the University Council, the concrete seat bases protruding from the ground on the northern side of the Rankine Brown Building. Seems Owen can't see In the dark.

A motion that exec. censure itself was lost by eight votes to six. Rose Booth instigated the motion after exec. Investigated an alleged unauthorised expenditure of $11.00 on alcohol for a pre-stunt party in Capping Week, end the loss on the Drinking Horn.

She said that thinking was fuxxy, debate disordered, and some of the chairmanship "inadequete".

The President, Doug White, described this as "A personal challenge to my chairmanship—if the does not withdraw this remark I may have to consider further action."

It was generally acceptad the debate wes shambolic, but enough people realised the inexpedience of a vote of selfcensure to vole against it.

Graeme Sargent was co-opted to the Executive in the portfolio of Public Relations Officer. He said his. first and major problem would be to organise tours of schools. Other applicants were Malcolm McSporran and Craig Wrightson.
