Drugs not a serious problem

Drugs not a serious problem

"Large numbers of young people in the United States are experimenting with drugs, but this is not a serious problem in New Zealand," said Dr J. Hall, Deputy Director of Menial Health, at a recent "Drug-in" arranged by the SCM.

A film on LSD, shown by Dr Hall, explained why many young people in the United States are attracted to drugs, and showed the harmful effects they can have. Dr Hall said that 68 people in New Zealand last year were admitted to hospital on drug charges, and seven were on LSD.

A Government committee, headed by Dr G. BlakePalmer, Deputy Director of Health, is carrying out a special investigation into the drug situation in New Zealand.
