An exception to the rule

An exception to the rule

Social teams are renowned for their short, if any, training sessions, and their frequent adjournments to more convivial surroundings. The Vic third grade, second division team is a typical example of this.

However, the team is an exception in that it is top of its grade. It has won all 11 games so far for an impressive tally of 337 points against the opposition's 36.

Ninety-five tries have been scored, while the team's own line has only been crossed 5 times.

Top points contributor is Martin Brenstrum who has scored 104 points in 9 games. Next is Chris Ward on 45 (15 tries).

Under coach Hank Apanowisz and captain Jim Law, the team has played some well co-ordinated rugby. The best displays of this were seen in the Upper Hutt (52-3) and Petone (40-0) games.

The team at present has a one point lead in the competition over Weir. (The deciding game will be played on 3 August.
