The following poem is in reply to the poetry published in Salient 15.
"Frankly the poem reeks", writes Peter J. Needham, in a covering letter.
"But so does the subject.
"Unlike some, I consider treating diabolic subjects in angelic terms makes for high satire.
"Why brush a corpse with violets when you can kick it in the head?" the letter said.
Smash
Pour brained bastard
Crunched like bone soup
And mixed with his bike.
"Hit a drunk at seventy"
Grins dabbling kid in cop's red light,
"Skidded on his face."
Hose and sawdust unto this
Split and ebbed meat.
He doesn't look like Christ,
But God—he looks like mince.
