Volleyball Films

N.Z. entered into international volleyball competition ten years ago when it had a men's team visit New Caledonia. This month New Zealand teams again visit New Caledonia; how much has international volleyball changed in that period? Throughout the period two areas of the world have filled the top three or four places. That is Japan and Fast Europe.

The East European countries have always had the height and power but the Japanese introduced speed and tactics to the game making it much more scientific. The Japanese women have been the top team since 1970 and although the Japanese won the gold medal in Munich in 1972, they have not had the strength of the women who first won at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Even though the game has changed the basics can be seen in the films showing this Thursday May 19. Although an old film it is still great entertainment.
