The Song of the Open Road
The Song of the Open Road
Give me a horse and the open road,
And the wild wind at my back,
The storm-sprite's song as he sweeps along,
And the scurrying storm-clouds wrack.
Give me a horse that is strong and free,
Some wild, unbroken colt,
And galloping strong to the storm-sprite's song,
Shot free as a cross-bow bolt.
Give me a wind that is strong and clean,
As the south wind from the sea,
To the echoing crash of the breakers' lash
On the beaches to the lee.
Give me but this and I yield to none,
Though he be King or more,
When the galloping beat of my horse's feet
Keeps time to the wild wind's roar.
