A Sneer at Fate may be the Coward's Mask
A Curse at Luck the Gambler's sole Excuse;
But what the use of any Sneer or Curse
When cast at the Unseeing Universe,
Which all ignoring puny man's weak jeers
Rolls on—unchanged a million years;
And Man, in his presuming cocksure way,
Thinks of himself alone, and day by day
Shakes fist at Gaping Heavens, content quite
To set his puny strength against the might
Of blank Infinity.
