the author: Major D. W. Sinclair, ED, m.i.d., was born in Waihi on 23 April 1911 and educated at Worser Bay School and Wellington College. He served in 19 Battalion from September 1939 until invalided home in July 1941. In New Zealand he held the appointments of Chief Signal Officer, Central Military District, and CO Central District Signals. He went overseas again in January 1944 and was second-in-command of the Education and Rehabilitation Service in the Middle East until the war ended.
Mr Sinclair was on the staff of the Evening Post for over twelve years and is now Photo Editor in the Publicity Division of the Department of Tourist and Publicity in Wellington.
